A Designated Airworthiness Representative (DAR) is a private person designated by the United States Federal Aviation Administration to act on its behalf to issue special airworthiness certificates in the experimental category for research and development, market survey, and crew training.

DAR Fees (as of May 1, 2022)

Homologation Services** $850 + $110/hour*** & expenses
Risk Category 1* $2150 + $110/hour*** & expenses
Risk Category 2* $3600 + $110/hour*** & expenses
Risk Category 3* $6000 + $110/hour*** & expenses
Optionally Piloted Aircraft (OPA) $7500 + $110/hour*** & expenses
Type Certification (D&R Support) $7500 + $110/hour*** & expenses

*Risk Category as determined by FAA Order 8130.34D – Airworthiness Certification of Unmanned Aircraft Systems and Optionally Piloted Aircraft

**Homologation includes expedited Aircraft Registration under Part 47,  processing Special Flight Permits after major alterations or modification and is applied for any configuration changes that occur during the certification process.

***HOURLY BILLING
a) Hourly billing starts upon formal designation of the application by the FAA to the DAR through AWC.
b) Includes phone calls, virtual conferencing and the inspection (virtual or on-site)

REIMBURSABLE EXPENSES
a) Mileage in company or personal vehicles, at 75¢ per mile.
b) Meals will be billed at $75.00 per day in the United States.
c) Meals for International travel will be billed at $150.00 Per Day.

The following reimbursable expenses will be billed at direct cost:
a) Commercial air travel (minimum business class in US, first class overseas)
b) Other commercial travel, including rail, bus, taxi, rental vehicles
c) Accommodations
d) Telephone/fax/mobile charges
e) Postage and shipping/courier services
f) In-house printing and reproduction
g) Other project expenses: photocopying, laser printing, and so forth
h) ITAR/EAR consulting from Licensed Custom Broker

DAR Services may be performed by both Designees and UAS DAR-Applicants who are supervised by an FAA DAR Managing Specialist  (In partnership with the Griffiss International Airport UAS Test Site, the Texas A&M University Corpus Christi’s UAS Test Site, and the Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University UAS Test Site)
